Who Invented Sugaring Hair Removal?

It may be hard to believe, but sugaring has been around since ancient times. 😳 Seriously! Have we piqued your interest yet? Keep reading for a brief history lesson in sugaring.

According to historians, hair removal in ancient Egypt started off with simple tweezers and pumice stones before advancing to a form of sugaring similar to what we use today. Back then, the paste was believed to have been made out of a honey mixture known as ‘mourn,’ and it’s rumored that even Cleopatra used this hair removal method.

Inspired by Alexander the Great, who was known for battling while hairless and clean-shaven, the women of Egypt adopted a similar mentality by 500 B.C. Gradually over time, being hairless became the gold standard of beauty. 🌟 Women were considered clean and sanitary if they removed their body hair—including the hair on their heads. Beyond beauty purposes, a lack of hygienic products also contributed to the hairless trend as most women didn’t have access to them. Since odor is more manageable when body hair has been removed, sugaring simply became an effective way for women to meet hygienic standards.

Fast-forward to now and sugaring continues growing in popularity. We invite you to stop by our all-pink salon to try it for yourself! 💞
